Youth and Family

“How can a young man keep his way pure?  By living according to your word.”  - Psalm 119:9

Welcome!  Our Youth and Family Ministry exists to foster each young person’s growth in becoming the person God created them to be.  This happens in numerous ways but it all starts with a relationship with the person of Jesus Christ.  Through our age-specific classes and activities we seek to offer each young person a chance to come into a saving relationship with Jesus and to learn how to live out the Christian life in an increasingly non-Christian world.

The Bible is Central

We believe that God has revealed his unique plan for history and salvation through a book – the Bible.  Because we believe the Bible contains the very words of God Himself (2 Tim. 3:16-17), all of our ministries are centered around studying what the Bible says.  Whether it’s 4-year-olds reading about Noah’s obedience to God in building an ark or teenagers learning about the book of Romans, our classes center around the teaching of Scripture.  Through our youth ministries young children as well as young men and women are taught to know God’s word and how to study it for themselves.

A Place of Love

We believe all people were created in the image of God (Gen. 1:26) and therefore ALL people have great inherent value.  Because of this another goal of our Youth and Family ministries is to provide young people with a community of friends where they will find love and acceptance – no matter their race, gender, or social status at school.  We regularly coordinate many fellowship-oriented activities so our children and teenagers can build loving relationships with other Christians their age as well as adult volunteers and staff.

Curriculum

Currently in our 2-year-old to 6th grade classes we use the 21st Century Christian Publishers Life Links to God and New Life Through His Word curriculum.  We also offer a Cradle Roll Sunday School class for children under 2 years of age where children are introduced to some elementary concepts of the Bible through song – like God’s creation of the world!

Classes meet Sunday mornings at 9:30am and Wednesday evenings after our devotional, which begins at 6:15pm.

On Sunday mornings we offer two choices for 3rd-6th graders. Starting at 9:30am in Room 108 we use the Precept Ministries Discover 4 Yourself inductive Bible study series.  Our teachers for this class have been trained by Precept Ministries to teach this material in an exciting, engaging, and effective manner to your children.  In this class the children learn important skills in studying the Bible the way it was intended to be read.  They also divide up into teams and compete to see who can learn most about the book of the Bible they are studying.  Second, also at 9:30am in Room 105 we offer a class going through curriculum we’ve written ourselves specifically for our 3rd-6th graders. In this class your child will be taken straight through books of the Bible where they will be taught how to ask proper questions of the text as they learn about God’s character, his plan of salvation in Jesus’ death, and his will for our lives. They will also practice applying what they study to their own lives through a time of journaling each week.

Our teenagers have classes on both Sundays and Wednesdays that cover various topics of the Bible.  Often we go straight through books of the Bible to show how truly amazing and practical is God’s word.  Teen classes meet on Sunday mornings at 9:30am in the Teens House, and Sunday Evenings at 6:00pm in the Teens House. On Wednesday evenings following our 6:15pm devotional our teens split up in classes for boys and girls respectively.

Sunday Evenings

We have a traditional second service on Sunday evenings in our auditorium. However, every first, third, and fifth Sundays of the month our Puppet Team puts on a biblically based and educational puppet show for kids 3yrs old through 6th grade. The Puppet Team writes their own skits and always mixes in some songs and fun activities. Kids love this time! Everyone (except for teenagers) starts out in the auditorium on Sunday nights at 6:00pm and then around 6:15pm the kids break off for puppets.
